He suffered a finger blister while throwing a pitch in the game today against the Edenton Steamers. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the starting pitcher. "That's a tough break for him," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We will just fill in until he gets back." Pace will miss 1-2 weeks.
This season Pace has worked 137 innings with 104 strikeouts en route to a 12-7 record and a 3.22 ERA. |  | Saturday, October 4th, 2014: San Antonio Triumphs Over Squids in Shutout "He was kind of teasing them with his offspeed stuff and his fastball was moving everywhere," the San Antonio skipper said in postgame comments after Alfred McCluney had shut out the Cummaquid Squids 2-0 on a 5-hit masterpiece.
McCluney numbered 8 strikeouts and issued 1 walk in a gem of a performance.
"We just didn't swing the bats very well . . . or he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," complained the Cummaquid manager after the defeat.
